2007 2008 Player Registration

What a summer this has been for LHA. Many changes have happened since the end of last season. One of the most exciting is our continued use of the Internet to streamline your registration process.  A couple of key points about this year's registration:

1.      On-line registration tips. The players name must match their birth certificate. This is required by USA Hockey. The Social Security # field is listed for USA Hockey use. They use this for the player ID number in their database. This is an optional field.

2.      Birth Certificate. A copy of your child's Government Issued Birth Certificate (not a hospital or baptismal certificate) will be collected by your team manager once teams are formed. Your child will not be allowed to play without a birth certificate on file, due to District 8 and USA Hockey rules.

3.      Payment options. In order to complete registration, electronic payment of registration fees must be accomplished. Payments will be accepted at time of registration with Visa / MasterCard credit cards or Electronic Check payment via our On-line registration system. In an effort to streamline the payment process and eliminate collection issues, all payments will be electronically guaranteed.  This will eliminate the need for you to mail in your payment to LHA.

4.      Cost. The Registration fee that you paid today is made up of the following costs:

  • Hockey Development costs (training tapes, puck shooting machine, other equip)
  • Use of home and away jerseys for all traveling teams
  • An official LHA warm-up suit for all traveling teams – yours to keep!
  • Evaluations
  • MAHA & USA Hockey Fees
  • Administrative Costs

5.      Registration fees. Fees for this season are approximately 1/3 of the average total season fees by level for Squirts/U10 and above. Mite-Prep total season fees are paid at registration. The Projected Average Total Fees are estimated and may vary depending on individual team budgets.

Note: A $100 fundraiser fee will be added to your registration fee for your first and second child that you register with the LHA.  These fees can be recovered 100% by selling raffle tickets as discussed in the fundraiser section below.

The remaining costs for will be due to LHA or your team Manager depending on which expenses you are paying.  The bulk of your remaining hockey costs (ice time, tournaments) will be due and paid to LHA on November 15th, 2008 with the final payment due by January 15th, 2008.  Once the teams are formed, your payment will be adjusted for that team's costs.

Final adjustments will be made in March 2008 based on actual costs incurred for your team. March adjustments must be paid by March 31st, 2008.  If you have a credit balance, a check will be mailed to you on March 31st, 2008.  This year each team member will pay LHA directly for ice, district fees and other costs incurred by LHA.  Miscellaneous expenses ie… refs for scrimmages, pizza, coaches gifts will be collected by your team manager and held in an account by your team manager in a non-LHA checking account.

For squirts, peewees, bantams and all girls U10 and older: The registration costs include Lakeville Hockey warm-ups (pants & jacket), tryouts, MAHA fees and insurance, equipment and all administrative costs needed to keep the LHA running.

6.      Arena Fee. In 1994, the LHA Board of Directors implemented an “Arena Fee” to raise funds upon its inception for an arena. A yearly “Arena fee” of $35 per family is collected from all families that have not yet contributed a total of $250. This fee will be assessed each year until the long-term debt is retired and the arena fully covers its expenses. Families are welcome to contribute $250 to the arena fund, now or in the future, and subsequently have the $35 Arena Fee waived for the balance of their years in the LHA.

7.      Fundraiser. For the 2007/2008 hockey season, the fundraiser/buyout fee will be collected at the time of registration.  The cost will be $100 for the first child and second child.  There will be no additional charge for families with more than two children playing for LHA.

At the mandatory parent meetings held in September, each family will be given an envelope with (5) raffle tickets to sell for each participating child (capped at 2).  Each raffle ticket will sell for $20 and have a chance to win cash prizes.  Since you will have already paid for your fundraising obligation during this registration process, the $20 you collect for each raffle ticket will be yours to keep.  You will be required to return the filled out portion of the raffle ticket to your team manager later in the season (Date TBD).  If you elect to “buyout” rather than “sell” your raffle tickets, simply return them to your team manager with your name filled in on each stub.  The drawings will be held January 20th, 2008.

8.      Tryouts. Tryout schedules are posted on the LHA web site. All tryout fees are included in your registration fee. We recommend that all players participate in evaluations.  The evaluation process allows the LHA to create evenly competitive teams for the benefit of every player.

9.      Policy on High School Tryouts - If your son or daughter elects to try out for a high school team, please be aware that the registration fees cannot be refunded to you. The registration fees are for insurance, equipment, jerseys, warm-ups and other costs needed to operate the LHA. You will also be responsible for covering your share of the team costs incurred up to the time you leave the LHA and move to the high school team.

10.   Concession Stand Volunteering - The LHA operates the concession stand at Ames Arena, with the profits earmarked for special projects, such as covering the cost of ice scheduling and new food equipment. We depend on each team to volunteer 4 days during the hockey season to operate the stand. If your team does not work its appointed shifts, the team will be charged a $75 fee which would represent lost profits while the stand is closed. NO CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 16 WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE CONCESSION STAND AT ANY TIME.

11.   Parent Meeting.  We are working through plans for two parent meetings.  The first is for all levels except Mite Prep/Mite and is planned for the week of September 17th with a start time of 7:00 PM.  The second, is for Mite Prep and Mites only and is planned for the week of October 8th also with a start time of 7:00 PM.  These meetings are intended to provide our parent members with the most current happenings at the LHA.  You will hear from the president, and our director level leaders from administration, development, operations, finance and fundraising.  Fundraising packets will be available for pick-up at starting at 6:30 PM prior to both meetings. This is an opportunity for you to meet your board members, catch up on activities from over the summer, and ask your questions.  These meetings will be updated with a date and location. Those updates will be published on the LHA website as they become available.

12.  Recognition of a Generous Donor.  The Lakeville Community Corporation has generously donated upwards of $37,000 to help defray the cost of hockey for brand new members of the LHA. First year kids new to the LHA registered at the Mite-Prep through Mite 2 levels will be given a coupon that will entitle them to a one-time up to $50 credit on hockey equipment purchases made at Lakeville Athletic store. To take advantage of this credit, simply register your son or daughter at the appropriate level through the standard LHA registration process. Every few days during the registration process, Lakeville Athletics will be given a list of all the eligible children (grades K-2 and new to LHA) to which the grant applies. Simply go to Lakeville Athletics, present the staff with your child’s name to get your $50 credit coupon and then make your equipment purchase. Note that only equipment (not sticks, skate sharpening, etc.) is eligible for the credit.

We are proud to take part in this terrific program. Thanks to the Lakeville Community Corporation for their support and generosity!

If you have any questions, please let me know.

13.  Scholarships - The LHA has set aside a limited amount of funds for families that are experiencing a long-term financial hardship. If you feel that you qualify, please contact Joe Hanneman at 612-840-8678 or jhanneman@imagineps.com. All Scholarship requests are held in strict confidence.

14.  Refund Policy - The LHA did adopt beginning with the 95-96 Hockey season a formal refund policy that will be applied in all cases when a registered participant wishes to withdraw from the program. This policy was adopted with consideration of the fact that the LHA incurs costs immediately after a child is registered. Many of these costs are not refundable to the LHA by the District or USA Hockey. And as such we cannot refund them to the participant. If a withdrawal request is made prior to the actual tryouts, you will receive a refund of the registration fees, less a charge of $50 to cover administrative costs. If your child attends a tryout session, there will be NO refund of any registration fees. Injuries, although rare, are part of the game of hockey, and as such, are not allowable reasons for withdrawing from the program and requesting a refund.

15.  Contact information for questions For questions regarding payments or costs, please contact the LHA Treasurer Joe Hanneman at 612-840-8678 or jhanneman@imagineps.com.  For others, please contact our LHA Registrar Linda Freemark at 952-985-5716 or registrar@lakevillehockey.com.

When you complete the registration process, an e-mail will be sent to you confirming your entered information and links to an LHA Handout, MN Hockey Waver form and an MN Hockey Consent to Treat form.  Please use the LHA Handout for any future reference needs and print, complete and return the MN Hockey forms at the parents meeting.
